Nooo! The End of Summer is Coming (SIGH)

Here in the Chicago Area, I can already see that Summer has lost her firm grasp on the weather and Fall is taking hold slowly, but surely. It is alarming how fast the summer flew by but fall is still a great season. But before I start with the fall cocktails, let's talk about that last "Hoorah Party" for summer-Labor Day Weekend!!

Just a couple ideas to throw your way for those of you seaching for a new drink or two to wow your guests and taste buds.

Thanks to Liquor.com (love this site!!) I have a recipe here for a great, unexpected summer treat-The Beach Bum. It combines pear vodka, Cointreau, fresh lime, maraschino liqueur. A little sweet, nice color, and a fun combo of refreshing and fruity notes, it's a shoe in for your last summer party of the year!

2 oz Grey Goose La Poire Flavored Vodka

0.5 oz Cointreau

1 oz Fresh lime juice

.5 oz Maraschino liqueur (Luxardo)

1 dash Grenadine

Garnish: 1 Fresh mint

Glass: Rocks

Add all the ingredients except the grenadine to a shaker and fill with ice.Shake well and strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Top with the grenadine and garnish with fresh mint.

Another refreshing and new option to try is a Cucumber Fizz-also from Nick Mautone at Liquor.com. This awesomely green drink has the cool, cucumber ntoes as well as some surprising sweet floral notes. Definitely one to try before the summer ends!

2 oz Cucumber, peeled and roughly chopped

1.5 oz Grey Goose La Poire Flavored Vodka

.5 oz St-Germain

.5 oz Lemon juice

.5 oz Simple syrup

Lemonade or club soda

Garnish: 1 Mint, cucumber slices and lemon zest

Glass: Highball

In a shaker, muddle the cucumber. Add the vodka, St-Germain, lemon juice and simple syrup, and fill with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with mint, cucumber slices and lemon zest and top with lemonade or club soda.
